Staff + Leadership

Rev. John Asher

John discovered the depths of God's love when he was in the youth group at Columbia Presbyterian Church in Vancouver, WA.  Through the gift of caring mentorship, he was instilled with a passion for ministry.  He believes deeply in helping remove the barriers that separate us from our true identity in Christ. To serve that purpose, he holds a Master of Counseling from Fordham University and a Master of Divinity from Fuller Seminary.  Prior to professional ministry, he served as a head of staff for a technology education company.  He now lives in Puyallup with his wife and two sons.

Erin Calata

She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Pacific Lutheran University and completed her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at Arizona State University. She is a seasoned soloist, recitalist and chorister, singing professionally with music organizations locally and nationally.  She is an active voice teacher in the area, instructing at Pierce College in Puyallup. She and her family are members of the church, and love living in the Pacific Northwest where they enjoy the outdoors and spending time with friends and family.

Sheri Martin

Ken Emly

Ken has been Treasurer for several years. In his free time he enjoys cooking with Valerie, and walking to help prevent the good eating from gaining ground. He volunteers at Multicare and really, really misses the NICU babies.

Board of Session

“It is the duty of elders, individually and jointly, to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation committed to their charge. Together with the pastor, they should encourage the people in the worship and service of God, equip and renew them for their tasks within the church and for their mission in the world...”
Elders serve on Session for a term of three years at Shepherd of the Hill. Their meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

Board of Deacons

All deacons have a parish area of members of the congregation that they care for in times of joy or need. When you become a member, you will have a deacon assigned to you. If you ever have a concern, crisis, or questions, please contact your deacon for help.
They also assist at memorial services for members; provide care to those in need in our neighborhood, and sponsor a Christmas Giving Tree so that local families with children that are referred to us can experience the joy of Christ's birth through a caring community.
Deacons serve on the board at Shepherd of the Hill for a three-year term. They hold their meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
